Urban freight distribution (DUM)
DUM (in catalan, distribució urbana de mercaderies, urban freight distribution) is the final stage in product supply, called last-mile delivery. Areas traditionally known as ‘loading and unloading zones’ are set aside for commercial vehicle parking in order to regulate these operations in the metropolitan public space.
DUM reserved parking spaces are part of the municipalities’ regulated parking system and are usually identified by yellow road markings.
The metropolitan area is working on a coordinated strategy for managing and supervising metropolitan DUM by putting into place uniform parking services, timetables and conditions. The SPRO app for businesses has been devised for this purpose and enables parking operations in the DUM zones of the Barcelona metropolis to be managed quickly and flexibly.
Using SPRO, parking is handled from a single app for more than 12,000 DUM spaces spread across seven metropolitan municipalities.
The parking spaces reserved for DUM are identified by a sign showing the times when loading and unloading is allowed, the parking time limit (30 minutes) and the zone code, which is needed to start parking with the SPRO app.
