On the 9th of October the kick-off meeting for the ESPON METRO targeted analysis project was held online and featuring all of the project members, who shared their expectations of the project, as well as their policy and knowledge needs. The aim of this project is to analyse and compare the role of cohesion policy in the process of planning and implementing metropolitan policies, addressing experiences and practices as well as their territorial impact in each of the stakeholders' territories. As part of this project, the impact and governance of cohesion policy in nine metropolises, among them the AMB, will be studied.

Ultimately the targeted analysis hopes to provide the stakeholders, other cities and EU institutions with recommendations on how to better use cohesion policy to foster strategic planning at city and metropolitan level, as well as how to implement integrated territorial development and area-based approaches through cohesion policy.

The project is led by the Metropolitan City of Turin and the partnership includes the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB), Brno City Municipality, Metropolitan Area of Gdan?sk-Gdynia-Sopot, Municipality of Florence, Métropole de Lyon, Perspective Brussels, and Riga City Council Development Department.

The research will be developed by a consortium led by Politecnico di Torino together with several universities and research centres, including the Barcelona Institute of Regional and Metropolitan Studies (IERMB), who will be responsible for the analysis of the AMB case.
