Socio-environmental restoration of metropolitan river areas
This project focuses on the socio-environmental restoration of the metropolitan river areas in the Besòs and Llobregat river basins, including the streams which drain directly into the sea and the Collserola watersheds.
Furthermore, a series of degraded areas and defects in the integration of various types of infrastructure in the metropolitan landscape have been detected. Actions are expected to restore and integrate these fundamental spaces for the metropolitan area into the network of green infrastructures.
European co-financing will help restore and preserve the ecological quality and landscape of this green infrastructure and create new spaces for public use. The initiatives will also help restore and conserve the river areas that are currently regarded as deficient from a hydrological perspective and mitigate any associated flood risks.
Despite these actions will be carried out on a metropolitan scale, as they respond to a situation specific to the region and fall within the scope of metropolitan competence, mention must be made of the participatory process conducted alongside the various local councils as part of the Natural and Urban Landscape Action Programme (PSG), which is aimed at determining the places requiring action and the most appropriate solutions.
