Description
Enhance the capacity of municipalities in northern Jordan to manage solid waste with a broad-based perspective that incorporates gender and diversity approaches. The overall aim of the project is to contribute to securing the health and environmental rights of the local and displaced population in northern Jordan.
Objectives:
1) To increase the efficiency of the collection and transportation of solid waste in the Greater Mafraq municipality.
2) To enhance the solid waste management capacities of the Jordanian municipal councils.
3) To provide the necessary practical training to the As-Salt, Madaba, Jerash, Ajlun, Az-Zarqa and Irbid groups of municipalities to enable them to begin developing their own route optimisation maps.
Waste collection and transport route optimisation maps are being produced for the Mafraq, Irbid, Az-Zarqa, As-Salt, Ajlun, Madaba and Jerash groups of municipalities (25% of the routes in Mafraq and two pilot routes in each of the other six).
The municipal staff responsible for solid waste management will also receive practical training and will be provided with the necessary equipment and software for optimisation of the routes.
