Description
LIFE ABATE aims to increase the sustainability of biological mechanical waste treatment by demonstrating the technical, economic, environmental and social benefits of an innovative technology for the comprehensive reduction of non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs) and CO2 from gaseous emissions. This comprehensive process reduces NMVOC emissions and minimizes odour release from MBT plants, while lowering overall energy requirements and avoiding natural gas consumption for thermal oxidizers.
In addition, the emitted CO2 will be used in greenhouse agriculture to promote crop growth and improve production, reducing overall CO2 emissions from MBT plants. In general, the ultimate objective of LIFE ABATE is to drastically reduce VNMC and CO2 emissions, and, as a secondary objective, to alleviate the negative health effects and improve the well-being of citizens and ecosystems by reducing the consumption of natural gas, using biogas, and therefore, saving power.
