Description
The overall objective of ICARIA is to achieve a better understanding of climate change-related impacts and adaptations on strategic assets through the comprehensive climate resilience and risk assessment framework. This will be done through promoting the use of a comprehensive asset-level model analyzing future climate-related impacts produced by complex, compound effects and cascading catastrophes and the potential risk reduction provided by adequate, sustainable and profitable adaptation solutions.
Special consideration will be given to critical assets and infrastructure susceptible to climate change, in the sense that regional climate change can lead to significant increases in the cost of maintenance, potential for disruptions and unplanned failures.
Specifically, it will focus on a large set of critical services and public and private infrastructure related to water, transport, energy, waste and tourism sectors.
On the other hand, housing, natural spaces and land will be considered as possible assets affected by simple and compound extreme events.
In the specific case of AMB, ICARIA will focus on analyzing:
• Hazards: composite flood events (rain flood - storm surge - sea level rise)
• Assets/services: residential areas (buildings, vehicles...), natural spaces (parks, beaches...), water assets.
• WWTP, drainage system, water supply, waste treatment plants..., metropolitan waste assets in terms of transport and system and electrical assets.
• Tangible impact to be addressed: flood damage.
