Presentation of the 9th Issue Paper of Metropolis Observatory

Document cover

On Thursday 19 December, the Metropolis Observatory presented its 9th Issue Paper on "The Internationalisation of Metropolitan Spaces", coordinated by the AL-Las Cooperation Alliance.

The document is the culmination of lengthy preliminary work aimed at understanding the keys to the internationalisation of the AMB. This included seminars held in Barcelona in June 2019 (comparison between Montreal, Seoul, Vienna, eThekwini, Medellín and Barcelona) and June 2018 (comparison between Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Greater Manchester, Stuttgart and Zurich).

The aim of "The Internationalisation of Metropolitan Spaces" is to organise and streamline the resources that metropolitan areas around the world devote to their international dimension. Aspects such as cooperation, coordination and the complementarity of foreign action or different methods, such as multilateral relations or town twinning, with which the metropolitan areas may shape their international action, are some of the topics the document discusses. Lastly, the document includes a series of recommendations for making international action more useful and efficient and on how it may be harnessed with regards to the public policies for which the metropolitan areas are responsible.
