Quindio visits the AMB

| Subject: International Relations

Representatives from this Colombian region learn about the advantages of pooling services from a metropolitan viewpoint.

A delegation from Quindio (Colombia) made up of the governor and secretary of Infrastructures of Armenia (capital of Quindio), 12 mayors from the department and different management posts visited the AMB to learn first-hand about the metropolitan model for managing joint services, primarily water, transport and waste.

The mayor of El Papiol and metropolitan councillor Joan Borràs made an initial outline of the efficiency involved in joining forces and sharing cross-regional services with other municipalities. Attendees took a tour of the metropolitan municipality, which let them see first-hand the different projects developed in El Papiol with the support of the AMB.

The delegation also visited the water purification plant (ETAP) of Sant Joan Despí, where they could see how water is captured and made potable for human consumption, and the treatment plant (EDAR) of Gavà and Viladecans, where water is treated and regenerated. On the second day of the visit, in addition to seeing the Trambaix facilities in Sant Joan Despí and other points of interest such as the Agrarian Park of Baix Llobregat, the Quindio representatives visited the headquarters of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area for a technical meeting, where they could go into greater detail on its governance model and the joint competences of the 36 metropolitan municipalities by sharing common policies.

This visit was organised by the Catalonia Colombia Chamber of Commerce with the collaboration of the AMB and will be extended until 14 April, so that the Quindio delegation can visit other companies, institutions and facilities and the parties can all seek the pertinent synergies.
