As a result of the last annual Medcities conference in Dubrovnik, the network of Mediterranean cities published ‘Historic City Centres: Heritage, Innovation and Social Cohesion', in which – from a holistic outlook – all thoughts, analyses, conclusions and future challenges are summarised that are being faced by the historic centres of Mediterranean cities, topics that were debated by participants at the international seminar held in November 2015.

Starting from the analysis of specific cases, including the cities of Izmir (Turkey), Chefchaouen (Morocco), Dubrovnik (Croatia) and Barcelona, the publication  points to the regeneration of historical city centres as a participative process among all stakeholders involved – civil society, public and private enterprises – to seek balance between economic development, tourism and citizens' daily lives.
