The opportunities this budget holds for cities are unveiled

On 16 October, the Polish MEP Jan Olbrycht, president of the European Parliament's URBAN Intergrup presented the priorities of the 2021-2027 budget and the opportunities it holds for city councils and metropolitan areas.

During the session, Olbrycht emphasised the role that metropolitan areas are currently playing in Europe, despite not receiving the institutional recognition they deserve. For this reason, he highlighted the importance of networks such as European Metropolitan Authorities (EMA), promoted by the AMB.

The EU's new multi-year financial framework for 2021-2027 and the funds from the Next Generation EU recovery plan will represent an investment of €1.82 trillion, which will reach the EU territories in the form of different policies.

Event participants also included the vice-president of the AMB Area for International Relations and Cooperation, Ernest Maragall, who introduced Olbrycht, and Antoni Segura, president of the CIDOB. This event is part of the cooperation agreement between the AMB and the CIDOB.
