For a decade now, the island of Lesbos has been the main gateway for people seeking refuge by fleeing to Europe, having received the most refugees by sea since 2012. Although refugee arrivals on the island have decreased considerably in recent years, a number of challenges associated with the flow of forced migration, the huge volume of waste resulting from flight by sea and life in informal settlements still need to be addressed.

Today, special emphasis on awareness-raising and implementing transformative practices to promote environmental and refugee rights is considered necessary and strategically important.

The project works on two lines of action:

- Awareness-raising actions and good practices in environmental and refugee rights in municipalities in several European countries (at least three others apart from Greece) and online.

- Actions for raising environmental awareness and promoting recycling linked to refugee rights on the island of Lesbos.

The beneficiaries of the project are 100 people (at least 40% women) participating in the actions in the European locations, 1,400 people participating in face-to-face and online activities, and 260 people (at least 70% refugees, 40% women) participating in actions on the island of Lesbos.

The project focuses on rights, gender, diversity, sustainability and democratic governance, which are prerequisites to ensure it has the desired impact on the territory.
