Description
The project aims to improve sustainable waste management in Al-Hasakah by designing actions to ensure circularity for materials, focusing on two lines of work:
- Strengthening the capacities and resources of various municipalities to set up and implement a pilot municipal waste recycling system in conjunction with other local stakeholders.
- Developing and implementing an awareness-raising strategy aimed at citizens, focusing on waste reduction, reuse and recycling.
The project places special emphasis on capacity building in local authorities and actors involved in urban solid waste management and includes the first pilot municipal recycling system in northern and eastern Syria.
The beneficiaries of the project are the 491,986 inhabitants of the areas of Qamishli, Amuda and Al-Hasakah. About 36% of them are under 18 years of age and 51% are women. The population is made up of different ethnic groups (Arabs, Kurds, Syrians, Assyrians) and religions (Islam, Christianity and Yazidism).
The project focuses on rights, gender, diversity, sustainability and governance, which are prerequisites to ensure it has the desired impact on the territory.
