Cooperation for the reception of migrants between Mediterranean cities

Tangier

On 9 and 10 January 2020, MedCities held the kick-off meeting for the TangerAccueil Project, a European Union-funded project developed as part of the MC2CM Programme, which promotes cooperation between Mediterranean cities in the field of migrant integration.

The aim of the TangerAccueil Project is to strengthen the Tangier City Council's role in organising and coordinating entities that provide reception and integration services to newcomers and immigrants in the city. The experience of the city of Barcelona, as well as its Care Service for Immigrants, Emigrants and Refugees (SAIER) and Barcelona Municipal Immigration Council, will be capitalised on in several knowledge exchange missions organised between the city councils of the two cities with a view to implementing an information and guidance system for migrants in the city of Tangier. This is one of the first projects in Morocco that manages the question of immigration from a municipal perspective.

The project will include a number of training and awareness-raising activities aimed at fostering the integration of migrants in the city, as well as the creation of an advisory council focused on reception that groups together all entities active in this sector.

The project will be implemented between January 2020 and February 2021. The project leader is MedCities (the AMB is in charge of the association's Technical Secretariat), the lead partner is the Tangier City Council and the associate partner is the Barcelona City Council.
