Workshop on metropolitan strategies

Virtual specialisation course for professionals from AMB and the CIDEU city network

Between 15 May and 16 July, AMB and the Latin American Centre for Strategic Urban Development (CIDEU), city network held a virtual workshop on Metropolitan Areas in the virtual classroom of the CIDEU Corporate University.

It is one of the six specialised workshops in the training currently offered by the CIDEU.

The other five virtual workshops are: Communication for Strategists, Cultural Management of the City, Sustainability and Participatory Urban Planning, Active Cities for Employment, and Strategies for Sustainable Urban Mobility.

The Metropolitan Areas workshop focuses on creating strategies and analysing projects undertaken in conurbations from various perspectives: planning, economic development, connectivity and the road system, protection of the natural environment, provision of water services, energy, drainage, cultural services and waste collection and treatment.

The methodology of these CIDEU virtual workshops is based on learning by observing models, followed by an analysis and synthesis of the solutions to be applied in each case. This will involve analysis of real situations in the metropolitan areas of the participants' direct environment and in the AMB area in particular. The objective of the workshop is to share views and experiences on the metropolitan phenomenon, highlighting municipalism and local governance as a way of addressing citizens' demands in a more approachable, effective and transparent manner.

With this initiative, the AMB is collaborating directly on specialised high-quality training for professionals linked to urban strategic planning, extending their knowledge in specific areas of strategic interest, and promoting the exchange of experiences among the participants.
