The AMB provides its public transport services by means of different public and private transport companies operating under administrative concession.
The collective public transport network under the AMB responsibility is composed of metro and buses. Altogether, this system of metropolitan public service carries over 600 million passengers a year through a network of eight metro lines and 210 buses, with an overall length of about 4,400 km.
The main transport operator is the public company TMB, group composed of Transports de Barcelona, SA and Ferrocarril Metropolità, SA, which provide metro and bus services. Within the metropolitan area there are also eight companies or private groups that provide bus services: Baixbus, Nou Barris BCN, SGMT, Soler i Sauret, TCC, TUSGSAL and UTE Julià Travel-Marfina Bus.
