Description

The aim of the project is to ensure the right to life, safety and well-being, and thereby contribute to protecting the human rights of people in northern Syria affected by the earthquakes in Turkey which took place on 6 February 2023. Work was carried out based on a two-pronged approach:

  • Food and basic survival items (tents, mattresses, blankets and cookers) were distributed to people temporarily accommodated in camps and shelters due to the earthquakes in order to respond to the basic needs of the population.
  • Support for the public health system is provided. A technical team from the Kurdish Red Crescent is assessing the conditions and damage in hospitals and health centres affected by the earthquakes, particularly in Aleppo and Manbij, where many affected hospitals and health centres have been identified.

The beneficiaries of the project are 2,000 people affected by the earthquake, of whom 1,000 are in camps and reception centres and 1,000 are being treated in hospitals and health centres or by the ambulance service, as well as the population of the cities affected, where the public health centres are being evaluated.

The project incorporates an approach focusing on human rights, diversity, empowerment and gender equality.
