Final event of the 2nd edition of the "We Have Rights, We Weave Freedoms" programme on the Nova Icària Beach, Barcelona
| Subject: International Cooperation
Since January, more than 1,200 inhabitants of 10 metropolitan municipalities have participated in 80 workshops and activities highlighting refugee rights
This Saturday took place the closing event on the ‘We Have Rights, We Weave Freedoms' on the Nova Nova Icària beach, Barcelona, under the motto "Our voice, our commitment".
The event was attended by Alfred Bosch, AMB Vice-president of Area for International Relations and Cooperation; Maria Peix, AMB Head of Cooperation; Ferran Puig, Mayor of Torrelles de Llobregat, representing the ten municipalities participating in this second edition; and various political representatives from the 10 metropolitan municipalities involved (Begues, Cervelló, La Palma de Cervelló, Molins de Rei, Montcada i Reixac, El Papiol, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Sant Climent de Llobregat, Santa Coloma de Cervelló and Torrelles de Llobregat). Despite of the rain, more than 250 people participated in this event, which had to be slightly adjusted due to the weather conditions.
Adrià Bas and Esther Romagosa, journalists, were conducting the event. Maria Peix has described very positively. "In this closing event we would like to show the results of the process and state the relevance of the metropolitan municipalities involved", she said. She also has explained the positive impact on the planned activities: "The artistic strategy has fostered reflection and engagement towards the refugee human rights and international cooperation, so that citizens feel committed".
This entertaining and reclaiming event highlighted the work done during these months with local groups and associations, who discussed the experience and the learning that took place in the workshops. Those attending also had the opportunity to listen to the vivid testimony of a refugee, enjoy a collective performance (with the participation of the 10 municipalities involved) and dance to the rhythms of a closing musical performance by six percussion groups from Molins de Rei.
Enhancing critical awareness and a social commitment to human rights at a local level is the ultimate goal of this programme, which is part of Education for Global Citizenship in the Cooperation Plan. AMB aims to work on a joint and coordinated basis with the smallest municipalities in the Barcelona metropolis.
Through these months, more than 1,200 inhabitants of 10 metropolitan municipalities have participated in 78 workshops and 5 events highlighting the Mediterranean crisis, refugee rights and environmental sustainability.
The activities have been very varied: conceptual workshops, participative activities about the right of asylum and environmental sustainability or musical activities. A song with drum companies has been composed for the programme, which has been played at the end of the event.
