The meetings took place during the General Assembly of ARLEM in Malta.

The President of MedCities, Mohamed Idaomar, and the General Secretary of the network of Mediterranean cities attended the General Assembly of ARLEM (the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly) that took place in Malta last February.
MedCities, which has recently signed an agreement with the AMB to form an association for the urban development of the Mediterranean area, held a working meeting with the Mayors of Tripoli and Zirte and political representatives from Gharyan, Sirte, Benghazi and Tobruk.

The Libyan representatives learned about the network's activities and mentioned several areas where they need assistance, including water and waste management, in which the AMB has considerable expertise.

MedCities also took part in the meeting session of the Bureau of the Committee of the Regions, presenting the project on training and education in urban policies it is working on with ARLEM and the Union for the Mediterranean.

During this meeting, a conference took place on the refugee crisis and local and regional policies focusing on the reception of migrants. The ARLEM Assembly also approved the working plan for 2017 as well as two reports on local and regional cross-border cooperation in the Mediterranean (ENPI CBC Med) and another report on energy and climate change.
