Launch meeting of the MEANING project in Milan

| Subject: International Relations

The new project promotes a debate on the future of EU urban policy

AMB joined the first workshop of the MEANING (Metropolitan Europeans in Active Network, Inducing Novelties in Governance) project held in the city of  Milan, leader of the project, together with representatives from other partner metropolitan areas: Porto, Bari, Zagreb and Riga, and the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA). The MEANING project promotes the debate on the fundamental principles of urban governance within the EU, and it works to strengthen the identity of European citizens by creating subject-based networks on European metropolises and on exchanging experiences.

The international conference launched after an initial meeting for coordination and management. The main topics were governance of metropolitan areas in Europe, vision of the Urban Agenda for the EU and the role of European metropolises on the management of European funds.

The MEANING project is funded by the Europe for Citizens programme, and it is the result of the work done by the AMB within the European Metropolitan Authorities (EMA). Four thematic international events and several local activities ones will be held as part of the project. The forthcoming workshop will be held in Porto, and the Barcelona event, during spring 2018.
