Imatge de la notícia

The AMB project, SmartEdge, has been one of the 54 projects approved out of 234 applications received in the third call for project proposals of the Interreg Europe programme.

SmartEdge is a European territorial cooperation project and will consist of an exchange of experiences and knowledge between different territories about the role that edge municipalities of a metropolitan area play in the transition towards a low-carbon economy. The total duration of the project is 4.5 years with a budget of around € 1,600,000. The AMB will manage more than € 200,000 of those.

The AMB departments that will participate in the project will be the Environmental Services and Sustainable Mobility Directorates, with the support of the Area for International Relations and Cooperation.

Low-carbon economy

This project will focus on the opportunities to reduce GHG emissions from edge municipalities in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. These municipalities are an important part of the existing metropolitan fabric and have the opportunity to play a crucial role in facilitating the transition towards a low-carbon economy, and being able to provide smart and green solutions. The overall objective of the project is to improve low-carbon economy policies in the municipalities of the metropolitan fringes.

To achieve said objective, this project will involve eight partners. The leader, the metropolitan area of Akershus-Oslo (Norway), and the partners AMB, the Ministry of Economy of Brandenburg (Germany), the metropolitan areas of Stockholm (Sweden), Krakow (Poland) and Ilfov (Romania), as well as the Ministry of the Environment of Romania and a development and innovation agency in Milan (Italy). The project will also be an opportunity to continue working with several metropolitan areas with whom the AMB is already collaborating in the framework of the EMA, such as Akershus-Oslo, Stockholm or Krakow.

Partners will organize several workshops to exchange experiences and transfer good practices. They will elaborate a plan that to be implemented in the final stage of the project. The most relevant stakeholders in each territory will also be invited to the workshops in order to contribute to the exchange of experiences and best practices as well as facilitate the learning process on the innovative tools for urban planning to achieve low-carbon economy.
