On 18 and 19 September, Barcelona played host to the International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals: Actors and Implementation, organised by the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNi).

The AMB took part in the session entitled ‘Local Governments, Urban Cities', which addressed the increasingly prominent role of local governments at a time when forecasts point to a doubling of the percentage of the world's population who live in cities by 2050.

The event brought together multidisciplinary experts and professionals from around the world who shared their knowledge, ideas, experiences and expectations about the challenges posed by the sustainable development goals established by the United Nations. These 17 major goals, with global scope, look towards a horizon of 2030 and include putting an end to poverty, reducing inequality and taking action to protect the environment, amongst others.

This international conference was one of the activities organised by the GUNi network as part of the International Summer School on Leadership for Higher Education and Research. The network's objective is to provide intellectual guidance and scientific evidence to the global challenges from a humanist and critical perspective, promoting research and education to help build a fairer global community and more sustainable cities.
