COAMMS-OPAMMS visits the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB)
| Subject: International Cooperation
A technical delegation from the metropolis of El Salvador is interested in the public urban space
The institutional visit to the AMB by a technical delegation from the Council of Mayors of the San Salvador Metropolitan Area and its Planning Office (COAMSS-OPAMSS), consisting of the Deputy Director of Planning and Research and the Deputy Director of Social and Economic Development, took place from 10 to 14 July. The visit over the last few days was part of the project ‘The Public Space as an integrating element in economic and social development in the San Salvador Metropolitan Area to foster social cohesion and civic coexistence'.
This project aims to exchange experiences on the working methodology in urban public spaces. Among other aspects, this exchange includes a debate and analysis of how to incorporate gender approaches and diversity in initiatives for public spaces, and the incorporation of participatory processes in various projects carried out in urban environments.
The meeting also included a debate on waste management strategies with social objectives. Accordingly, there were visits to projects by the AMB (parks, squares, historic town centres and river areas) in Badia, Ripollet, Cerdanyola and Sant Boi, as well as economic development initiatives in various metropolitan municipalities.
The example of several social institutions was also presented: the Andròmines social services organisation for recycling and waste collection, and the Raons Públiques cooperative, which creates participatory processes in public spaces.
The AMB has had a relationship with the COAMSS-OPAMSS for some years, since it is a strategic institution for undertaking direct metropolitan cooperation projects in Central America.
