Smart Metropolia Conference

The AMB shared its experience in metropolitan governance in Gdansk
On 7 and 8 November, the conference Smart Metropolia was held in the city of Gdansk, Poland. The aim of this annual event is to discuss aspects such as the climate emergency, mobility, urbanism and, first and foremost, governance, on a local, metropolitan and even European scale. The conference was attended by authorities from all levels, largely from Poland, as well as representatives from the United Nations, the European Parliament and several universities.
The AMB was asked to talk about urban planning and mobility as part of the process of drafting the Metropolitan Urban Master Plan (PDU). The cities of Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot, in partnership with other municipalities, laid the groundwork for a future metropolitan administration and showed great interest in the AMB's experience, particularly with regards to common urban planning models.
This conference proved particularly emotional, as it was held in the same year of the death of the former mayor of Gdansk Pawe? Adamowicz, who was murdered after 20 years of mayoral service and having promoted the creation of the metropolitan institution.
