Final technical conference of experts from the cities of Barcelona, Paris and Atlanta
On 29th March, the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) hosted the final technical conference of the METROAirports project. The participants analysed and exchanged experiences on the socioeconomic impact of airports on the metropolitan area. The metropolitan areas of Barcelona, Paris and Atlantic and the Airports Region Conference (ARC) participated in this exchange and outline of ideas by presenting the cases of their airports.
In addition to the project partners, representatives from other stakeholders in the metropolitan area also participated in the event, including the Barcelona City Council, the El Prat de Llobregat City Council i AENA (Barcelona El Prat Airport). They debated the importance of planning, governance and economic development in these metropolitan regions near airports.
The METROAirports Project, co-financed by Metropolis, the World Association of Major Metropolises, has lasted three years, during which the economic and social aspects of airports in metropolitan areas have been examined, such as job creation, economic activity, mobility, access to housing, safety and the relationship between airports' activity and the right to the city.
