This session of the FCCD presents the We Have Rights, We Weave Liberties programme

Last Thursday, 14th March, the FCCD organised the Local World Refuge session with the aim of reflecting and elaborating on the local commitment to managing the political situation of refugees. At the same time, the session served to assess and identify future actions in the scope of refuge.

The Local World Refuge campaign has allocated more than 2 million Euros to promote aid and support in the political crisis of refugees. This initiative, lead by the FCCD, has performed a total of 39 humanitarian intervention projects related to refuge between 2015 and 2019, thanks to the donations of city councils, associations, regional entities, regional councils, schools, political parties and individuals.

An awareness program that has completed a three year cycle

The AMB participated in this session, where it presented the  We Have Rights, We Weave Liberties programme at the last round table in the session dedicated to education for global citizenship. The AMB stressed that this is the first metropolitan human rights programme carried out in the local sphere which emphasizes an innovative methodology that seeks to reflect on human rights thanks to critical pedagogy and through art. This year marks the end of the first three year cycle of We Have Rights, We Weave Liberties, which has advocated for the rights of refugees and the relationship between those rights and environmental and water rights.
Likewise, this round table featured projects for awareness, education for peace and political impact carried out by local entities and in Europe, as well as locally promoted motions to support the acceptance of refugees who are victims of armed conflicts in the Mediterranean.

The AMB highlighted the importance of continuing to work in the Mediterranean and keeping its commitment. Representatives of metropolitan administrations mentioned the role of city councils as leaders in terms of giving support to initiatives in favour of refugee's rights.

Maite Aymerich, Vice-president of the Area for International Relations and Cooperation, and Maria Peix, the Head of Service of International Cooperation, participated in the session on behalf of the metropolitan Administration.
