Debate on refugees
| Subject: International Cooperation
Tha AMB and tha UAB ask themselves about the role of the institutions in the light of the Mediterranean situation

This initiative was carried out as a parallel activity to the nomadic exhibition of AMB "What do we do with one? And many?" adapted by the students of 4th year of the Degree of Anthropology under the title We are Lesbos. This exhibition includes a sample of the 22 prototypes presented by the students of modeling of Massana School at the Social Contest of Ideas to give a new life to the lifejackets accumulated on Lesbos island convened by the AMB International Cooperation Service last April. The exhibition was opened on December 17th and can be visitated now at the UAB Humanities Library until January 31st.
The debate was opened and accompanied by Maria Peix, head of the AMB International Cooperation Service, Júlia Pírez, representative of Fundació Autònoma Solidària and Nour Alchick, Syrian activist and collaborator of UNESCO chair.
Future actions in cooperation and in the academic sphere
Speakers analysed and reflected upon the situation of refugees, victims of armed conflicts in the Mediterranean, and the cooperation actions that their respective entities have promoted, as well as the challenges that must be faced in the future. They also talked about the priorities that must be established and managed by public authorities and the solidarity actions that can be articulated from the academic world.
In the academic sphere, three lines of work were highlighted: reception and management of scholarships for refugee university students, the spreading and awareness of the reality of the Mediterranean and finally the promotion of research with appropriate teams of different territories to elaborate studies with plural views based on an interactive methodology.
Once the event was finished, a visit to the exhibition was held.
