Description
The project aims to improve and expand the collection and recycling system that has been put in place in Al-Hasakah. Actions are being undertaken in two areas:
- Strengthening the means and capacities of the DoLAE and the Al-Hasakah municipal council to expand the recycling system with key stakeholders (private recycling companies and informal recyclers). Training in sustainable waste management and advice on the collection system is provided, as well as tools for launching the door-to-door collection system and improving the existing sorting plant, and coordination with the formal and informal recycling sector is enhanced.
- Improving public awareness of environmental health and selective municipal waste collection.
The beneficiaries of the project are the approximately 2,000 inhabitants of the neighbourhoods (komins) where the selective waste collection system will be implemented, and in general terms, the entire population of the city of Al-Hasakah (232,209 inhabitants).
The project focuses on rights, gender, diversity, sustainability and democratic governance, which are prerequisites to ensure it has the desired impact on the territory.
