This project was begun in 2010, and it concluded in 2013. Its aim was to develop methods to limit losses of water from the network using a GIS and a series of indicators to set priorities for loss control measures and to adapt them to the distinct conditions in each European region.

WATERLOSS's main goal was to set out a suitable strategy for reducing the presence of unregistered water in drinking water supply networks. This reduction in unregistered water helps protect drinking water resources and improve the performance of the supply network.
In order to achieve this objective and to determine the best courses of action to reduce the various kinds of unregistered water, within the project a software programme called DSS (Decision Support System) was developed. The programme allows for the introduction of data on the characteristics of a municipality's drinking water supply system and then yields a series of guidelines on possible measures to help reduce the presence of unregistered water.
