Description

For a city, the most important aspects of having an airport include the direct socioeconomic impact and the uses given to the airport area. The METROAirports project will address economic and social aspects, such as the creation of jobs, economic activity, mobility, access to housing, security issues and the relationship between airport activity and the right to the city.

The project's main objective is to improve the design and implementation of airport-based metropolitan policies with urban planning and socioeconomic impact. By means of a transversal territorial assessment, experiences related to how airports affect metropolitan regions will be analysed and shared from a social and economic perspective, in order to improve the usages of the airport zone and its connection to land use planning.

Governance will also constitute a transversal element to be developed in this project led by the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, with the participation of the metropolitan areas of Île-de-France (Paris), Atlanta and Santiago de Chile and together with the Airport Regions Conference.
