Green Growth is an Interreg Med project that aims to promote sustainable development through territorial cooperation for innovation. Being part of the Interreg MED program, this project responds to the program's general objectives, such as the reduction of existing disparities among European regions, to increase the competitiveness of the Mediterranean region and to promote territorial cohesion and environmental protection. Furthermore, the Green Growth project finds itself framed under Interreg MED's first priority axis, innovation, and more concisely under the thematic of green growth.
Taking into account the numerous challenges the Mediterranean region faces – consequences derived from climate change, water scarcity in the region, risks associated to increasing urbanization pressure, pollution in the Mediterranean Sea, the difficulty of actors in the region to attain the objectives set by the European strategy for 2020 given the region's inferior level of innovation when compared to the rest of the continent… – the Green Growth project seeks to strengthen the innovation capacity of public and private actors from the area and to support intelligent and sustainable development.
The project will involve quadruple helix actors (public sector, private sector, academia and civil society) in the six participating countries (Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Belgium and Bosnia Herzegovina), who will participate in learning workshops and matchmaking sessions to share their best practices in order to effectively transfer concrete results into regional/national policies.
The project kicks off in November 2019 and will last a total of 32 months, having an estimated finalization date in June 2022.
