Description
LIFE AgroForAdapt wants to solve problems related to ecosystems and the interaction of natural resources with society, with the aim of improving the wealth and well-being of people and the sustainability of the natural environment in the context of current global change. LIFE AgroForAdapt seeks to promote agroforestry systems (the deliberate combination of woody vegetation with agricultural or livestock production systems to obtain the benefits resulting from their ecological and economic interactions) for adaptation to climate change in the agricultural and forestry sectors of Mediterranean areas.
Main objectives:
1. Assess and demonstrate the benefits of agroforestry systems, publicise their potential and promote their adoption in policies and regulations related to land use, forests and climate change at local, regional, national and European levels.
2. Establish new agroforestry systems and apply good management practices in existing systems.
3. Develop and apply innovative tools to:
i) assess the impact (indicators) of these systems on the aforementioned ecosystem services;
ii) prioritise areas for maintenance and installation based on the impact they have on these indicators;
iii) Share and give value to the success stories of Mediterranean Europe in terms of conception, management, economic viability and governance of agroforestry systems.
