The 3rd edition of the programme We Have Rights, We Weave Freedoms starts in La Palma de Cervelló

| Subject: International Cooperation

During the round table the main changes were presented. On of the most important is a painting on walls workshop with the right to water as the main subject.

Last Saturday, november 10th, the 3rd edition of the programme We Have Rights, We Weave Freedoms opened in La Palma de Cervelló with the slogan "Refugees and the right to water".
This edition focused on refugees' right to water through two projects that AMB manages in northern Lebanon and the municipality of Kobani, Syria.

One of the main consequences of the forced displacement of people fleeing from armed conflicts is the difficulty to manage basic supplies, such as drinking water and sanitation, both in the refugee camps and in host cities.

Does everyone have access to and control over water? Does everyone use water for the same things? Who uses it? How do we guarantee the access and control of water in a Syrian city destroyed by war and lacking the infrastructure to house refugees and displaced people? How do we do that in the Lebanese municipalities that have tripled their population? And in the informal camps and settlements? What kind of impact does water have on the right to health, food and decent housing? How much water do we consume? All these questions and many others are being  addressed dynamically this year with the different groups that participate in the program from the metropolitan municipalities.

The format is similar to previous editions: critical reflection with art through workshops and activities with different groups of municipalities, street events and a joint final event.

The opening event, part of the Party for Solidarity of La Palma de Cervelló, began with a round table chaired by the journalist Esther Romagosa, which included the participation of Maria Peix, Head of the AMB Area for Cooperation, Xavier Gonzalez, Mayor of La Palma de Cervelló, Nour Alchikch, who comes from Syria and holds the UNESCO Chair for Intercultural Dialogue in the Mediterranean, and representatives from the Community Centre for Older People of La Palma de Cervelló.

During the round table, the main new elements of this new edition were presented; the most notable being the mural-painting workshop about the right to water. Interested municipalities can create a collective mural on one of the walls of their municipality. In addition to that, there are familiar workshops from previous editions adapted for this year's programme: video, crafts, music, board games and performance.

The opening event ended with an activity where guests were invited to reflect on the right to water: "Why is water important for you? Can you imagine life without it?"

The public wrote their reflections on water drops made from cardboard that were placed in an empty water tank that will be filled throughout the program and will be part of the performance at the closing event in March, where the metropolitan municipalities will once again show their commitment to refugees.

One of the main objectives is that citizens of the metropolitan area of Barcelona become aware of the rights of refugees, with a very particular double focus: critical education at the local level in order to confront global challenges.

Campaign for citizen participation in social networks: Why is water important for you?

One of the most important news of this season, announced this month, is a campaign through social networks (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) in which citizens are invited to answer the following question:

"Why is water important for you? Can you imagine life without it?"

Participants should click "Like" on the post and reply to the thread with a photograph that expresses the importance and values of water.

The tag #tenimdretsteps will be used in posts on Instagram and Twitter, while the tags #TDTaLambAndAMB and #CooperaciAMAMB will be used specifically for Twitter.
The three photographs will be part of the closing event and the most creative, reflective and original will be recognised.
