The AMB held a seminar on metropolitan management

AMB Area for International Relations and Cooperation, together with the Government of Catalonia, la Barcelona Provincial Council and the Barcelona City Council, took part in the ninth World Urban Forum (WUF9) , organised by the United Nations between the 7th and the 13th of February in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), entitled "Cities 2030, Cities for All: Implementing the New Urban Agenda". This forum is the most significant global meeting in the field of sustainable urban development and human settlements.

The AMB has shared a stand with other Catalan institutions and has held a seminar on the AMB's perspective on the metropolitan reality. Currently, urban development at a global scale is affecting many scopes and metropolitan governance is key to understand that the management of cities has exceeded the administrative borders to be able to offer more efficient services closer to the citizens. Waste processing, public transport or green spaces are examples of a joint and integrated management, which proves to be more efficient than the individual management of municipalities.

The AMB is organising an international conference that will be held next May and will be directly linked to the main subject of this World Urban Forum (WUF9). Under the heading "The challenges of the metropolis beyond Habitat III: a contribution to the New Urban Agenda" , it will be focused on discussing the role of the metropolis in solving the challenges that the current world is facing: sustainability, social cohesion, economic development and land use planning.
