Virtual workshop on metropolitan areas

Hangout session by AMB and CIDEU on joint management of services

As a follow through of the agreement signed with the Centro Iberoamericano de Desarrollo Estratégico Urbano (CIDEU) to promote municipalism and joint service management, the AMB's International and Cooperation Area participated once again this year in online training on metropolitan areas, through which the student body at the Universidad Corporativa de CIDEU could clarify their questions and concerns in real time on the operations and management of competences of a large urban conurbation.

The topics that triggered the most interest among the 15 participants were the pros and cons of joint service management, both with regard to their coordination, financing, legal issues and public-private partnerships, as well as governance and the participation of different metropolitan stakeholders.

The virtual classroom puts strategic urban planning specialists in direct contact with public organisations and civil associations on both continents. This lets them exchange experiences and analyse metropolitan case studies –such as the AMB– to be able to develop future strategies in their specific action fields and, thus, provide better services to citizens.
