More than 1,300 families from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador improve their health through the "Shared Waters" program

After three years of collaboration, the agreement between the AMB and the Mancomunidad Trinacional Transfonteriza del Río Lempa (MTFRL)  – which includes 24 municipalities in three countries: Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador – has made it possible to improve the infrastructure providing drinking water to its 400,000 inhabitants. With the Shared Waters project, the population in the Trifinio region has been granted access to clean water, with improvements both for the environment as well as the health of the people who – until the implementation of this project – suffered from problems related to the consumption of unclean water. The collaboration agreement was developed in five municipalities: Dulce Nombre de Maria and Citalà (El Salvador), Ocotepeque, Sensenti and Santa Fe (Honduras). The AMB Department of International Cooperation and the Directorate of Water Cycle Services provided technical assistance for the installation of micro-meters, as well as improving the collection and treatment of tap water. Moreover, this technical support was accompanied by an awareness-raising and educational campaign on water resources aimed at the MTFRL population.
