An ERDF grant is awarded to recover metropolitan cultural and industrial heritage

Imatge de la notícia

On 8th September, the Executive Board of the Government of Catalonia awarded an ERDF grant (€4.4 million) to the AMB to improve and maintain the metropolitan network for the promotion of the cultural and industrial heritage.

It is aimed to push forward a series of actions associated with recovering the metropolis of Barcelona's cultural and industrial heritage. To do so, a network will be created to emphasise the metropolis' existing industrial and cultural heritage assets. This will allow promoting this heritage as an asset for visitors from outside the city of Barcelona and from Catalonia.

This network was established with the involvement of all AMB city councils through the AMB's Programme to promote cultural and industrial heritage, which served to identify areas that needed to be addressed and the type of solution required.

Close to €11 million

The initiative provides for 8 actions aimed at recovering metropolitan heritage, with a total investment of €10,840,000, of which 4.4 million correspond to ERDF funds, and the rest is co-financed between the AMB and the metropolitan councils:

  • Restoration of Can Bagaria in Cornellà de Llobregat.
  • Renovation of the Ca l'Aragall municipal building, in Sant Vicenç dels Horts.
  • Creation of a visitors' centre and adaptation of the access points at the Can Sadurní Cave archaeological site, in Begues.
  • Renovation of the Cooperatives Union building in Gavà.
  • Project for module C of El Molí, in Molins de Rei.
  • Interior refurbishment of Casa Larratea, in Montcada i Reixac.
  • Restoration of the west and east façades and renovation of the east roofs of the monastery church in Sant Cugat del Vallès.
  • Refurbishment and renovation of the Casal de Tiana cultural site (Sala Albéniz building), in Tiana.
This grant is part of the 2017 cooperation agreement between the Government of Catalonia and the AMB, which sets out a series of actions that include promoting and protecting the environment and resource efficiency. This agreement will enable the AMB to invest a total of €72 million, 30 million of which will be co-financed by the ERDF. The AMB has created an information portal that provides details on all the projects related to ERDF funds.
