Democràcia local
The networks Metropolis and CGLU (Ciutats i Governs Locals Units) have held an international workshop in Barcelona with representatives from local governments and metropolitan areas from around the world, including the AMB, in order to discuss the chapter on the metropolitan areas included in the World Report on Decentralisation and Local Democracy (GOLD IV), as well as the recommendations for contributing to the global agenda of local and regional governments which will be presented at the  UCLG Congress in Bogotà and Habitat III in Quito, in October.

The secretaries general of UCLG and Metropolis were responsible for opening the two-day seminar and welcoming the participants. The first day featured three roundtable discussions.

The AMB participated in the first, regarding the governance of metropolitan areas, and addressed the system of multilevel governance with other parts of government and civil society for the sake of effective collaboration.

The second roundtable discussed the economic development of metropolitan areas, as these are understood to contribute significantly to the wealth of their states, and may even surpass the GDP of many countries. And the third revolved around the urgent need to define new policies to manage the cities of the future and to ensure their prosperity, sustainability, and inclusion.

On the second day of the workshop, conclusions for the Global Agenda were presented and recommendations for the GOLD Report were discussed in order to determine the best policies for achieving the aspirations of local and regional governments of the metropolises.
