The vice president for International Relations and Cooperation, Alfred Bosch, attends on behalf of the AMB

The mayors and elected representatives of the member cities of the MedCities network met in Tétouan (Morocco) on 1 and 2 December, to hold the network's annual Assembly and to participate in the international seminar on cities and major regional projects, which included the presentation of various projects by members of the network before 400 people.

This year's international seminar included the participation of the European Investment Bank expert and lecturer at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya-Barcelona Tech (UPC) Mateu Turró, who moderated the debates between those attending. Eight cities in the network - Tétouan, Tangiers and Agadir (Morocco), Sidon (Lebanon), Malaga (Spain), Marseille (France), Sousse (Tunisia) and Larnaca (Cyprus) - presented their experiences of major projects that transcend administrative boundaries, competences and local interests, and which directly affect governance, urban development and territory in cities.

The MedCities president and mayor of Tétouan, Mohamed Idaomar, and the vice president of AMB, Alfred Bosch, opened the General Assembly. In addition to taking stock of the activities and projects undertaken in 2016, the members of the network took decisions about its legal framework, which enables the network to function as an autonomous association. Some amendments to the statutes, internal regulations and a new framework for fees were thereby approved. The activities plan for 2017 and the budget were also presented, and the accession of eight new cities was accepted: M'Saken, Tatouin, Menzel Bourghiba, Jerash, Martil, M'diq, Fnideq, and the Province of M'diq-Fnideq. MedCities therefore now has 51 member cities in 16 countries around the Mediterranean.

The Activities plan implements the services that MedCities provides in its cities, as well as the strategy for the upcoming calls for the projects for the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) in the Mediterranean.

MedCities, which has the official headquarters of its General Secretariat at the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB), has declared its commitment to working with Libyan cities and accompanying them as they define strategies and projects, as well as on the need to work on the issue of the refugee crisis in Syria and the gender perspective.

AMB's vice president for International Relations and Cooperation, Alfred Bosch, took the opportunity to meet the president of MedCities and the mayor of Tétouan to assess the work of MedCities and the needs of cities in the Mediterranean.
