Humanitarian support in the north of Syria

| Subject: International Cooperation

It coincides with an escalation of the conflict, which began over 7 years ago

The AMB has been providing support to the Kurdish Red Crescent and the NGO "UN Ponte per..."… to execute an humanitarian project for a refugees camp in the Euphrates Region (north of Syria).

The armed conflict affecting Syria started more than 7 years ago. Since then, the civil rights have been seriously violated. NGOs have to prioritize humanitarian actions, specially those addressed to vulnerable people, such as children. This is why this project has distributed baby milk and warm clothes among over 1.100 babies aged 1 and 2 subsisting in the Mistenur and Ain Issa camps, in the Euphrates Region (formerly Kobane Canton).

Distributions are part of the "Emergency project in the Syrian Kurdistan: a contribution for human rights exercise of the refugees in the Euphrates Region". This project aims to help and collaborate to give access to first need products for refugee children in the Mistenur and Ain Issa camps, in order to to ensure their right to life, security and welfare.

The invasion by the Turkish army and rebel yihadist groups is leading to a new escalation of the humanitarian crisis

The Euphrates Region is located in the Syrian Kurdistan. This area has enjoyed a relative stability during the last years. This is why it has been chosen as a destination by many of the displaced people during the Syrian conflict, especially from Aleph and Ragga, which have settled there seeking refuge.

This situation changed dramatically on 20th February last, when Turkish army, with the support of different rebel jihadist groups, invaded the Afrin region (north-west Syria).

This new humanitarian crisis might get worse the next months, because the Turkish government has announced its intention to continue the offensive to the rest of the Syrian and Iraqi Kurdistan.
