First SMART-MR Workshop

Participatory planning of transport has been the core area of this workshop with AMB participation

From 14 to 16 September, Ljubljana hosted the first workshop of the SMART-MR project (Sustainable Measures for Achieving Resilient Transport in Metropolitan Regions), centring on the participatory planning of transport, with representatives from all partner metropolitan areas.

The AMB, jointly with Ajuntament de l'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Associació per a la Promoció del Transport Públic, , participated in the ‘Whom to involve' session, with speeches on the identification of regional stakeholders, how to include the weakest groups, which legislation supports it, as well as tools that can be used to motivate the stakeholders.

With regard to the involvement of the different metropolitan agents in planning transport, the AMB presented the creation process of the Mobility Council, the new advisory and participatory body that brings together over 200 metropolitan players, both formal and informal, connected to mobility and committed to its sustainability.

Through discussion and working groups, the other partners also set out their cases and experiences related to participative transport planning in their metropolitan areas. The metropolitan areas involved are, apart from the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (Spain),  Oslo-Akershus (Norway), Hèlsinki (Finland), Göteborg (Sweden), Budapest (Hungary), Roma (Italy), Porto (Portugal) i Ljubljana (Eslovenia), which is the leader, as well as the European Transport Commissioner, Violeta Bulc.

Coinciding with the European Week of Sustainable and Safe Mobility (16-22 September), the SMART-MR project wants to contribute to the transition to an urban future with low carbon emissions, with sustainable measures for transport and mobility in cities.
