Cornellà de Llobregat, a finalist for this European award on environmental commitment

Cornellà de Llobregat is one of the three shortlisted cities for the European Green Leaf 2017 award, which recognises the commitment to make cities more environmentally friendly, along with Galway (Ireland) and Mikkeli (Finland).

This metropolitan municipality has implemented several environmental projects in recent years, making its desire clear to turn the municipality into a better place in which to live. Cornellà Natura – a project co-funded with the AMB – is one example, which creates green areas in the city and its surroundings that contribute to mitigating the effects of heavy traffic and to improving urban balance.

In the final phase of the competition, the pre-selected cities will have to demonstrate their future vision, through innovations and activities for citizens. The aim is to be a model for best practices in sustainable urban development for other European cities.

The European Green Leaf award was created in 2015 with the purpose of awarding cities of between 20,000 and 100,000 inhabitants that have a firm commitment to the environment and promote raising awareness of their citizens, so that they generate growth and green jobs.

The European Commission already opened the term for presenting candidatures for the 2019 European Green Capital and 2018 European Green Leaf awards.
