A concluding seminar on waste valorisation is conducted

On 27th March, the final seminar of COOP-VERD project took place in Nabeul, Tunisia, in order to showcase the experience of the project in promoting sorting, recycling and recovery of plastic waste as part of the optimization of waste management in the city.

The seminar was focused on presenting the results of the project in terms of plastic recovery and valorisation and improvement of the working conditions of the wastepickers. With the participation of seven cities of the network and the presence of national agencies and relevant local actors involved in waste management and valorisation, the seminar held an interactive session in order to facilitate the exchange of interesting experiences for plastic recovery in the country.

Furthermore, the official inauguration of the Eco-Point of Nabeul took place in the afternoon of the same day, with the presence of the Municipality of Nabeul, the Association ETE+, responsible for the management of the site, as well as MedCities, representatives, the network of Mediterranean cities of which the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona holds the Secretariat. An Eco-Point is a sorting and balling facility created in the city centre of Nabeul. It improves the income and the working conditions of wastepickers by reducing distance, avoiding intermediaries and taking into consideration the social criteria of the beneficiaries of the centre. The wastepickers had the opportunity to exchange experiences with relevant national and local actors on the challenges they face and the needs addressed by the project.

COOP-VERD project, implemented by the AMB, with funding from the Barcelona City Council, has been carried out from December 2016 until the end of March 2018.
