On the 27th of March, the AMB participated in a tech-camp in Nicosia on sustainable mobility focused on the Urban Mobility Metropolitan Plan PMMU to contribute to the debate on sustainable mobility in the Mediterranean. It was held, as part of the GO SUMP project, in the CIRCLE/SMILE2019 ("Challenges for the Islands in the Era of Circular Economy. Sixth Sustainable Mobility and Intelligent Transport Conference").

The presentation was part of the activities that Interreg-MED Urban Transports Community (UTC) and MedCities, together with CODATU, carried out in this conference.

The CIRCLE/SMILE conference brought together more than 300 participants, ministers, mayors, EU and DG MOVE representatives, innovation projects from the UTC and MED Green Growth, members of the GO SUMP project, as well as associations, universities and other Mediterranean experts. The tech-camp was addressed to members of the UTC in order to present and test the ICT tools developed in its activities in the Mediterranean area.

The seminary and conference were intended to reinforce the exchange and transference of knowledge between urban mobility technicians and experts of the Mediterranean area. The MedCities members that participated in the sessions (from Larnaka, Limassol, Sfax, Palma, Malaga and the AMB), explained the urban characteristics and mobility features in order to share challenges and solutions. Furthermore, during the sessions, the experts presented their most recent initiatives and projects for urban intervention and mobility planning, and evaluated the chances of replicating the results and lessons learned.

Capitalising the results of Interreg-MED

These events were an opportunity to debate the replication and adaptability of best practices. The participating cities presented various tools to the others. For example, the MOTIVATE tool and the work conducted in Larnaka were exhaustively detailed by Palma, to see if it could be replicated in the mobility plan that they are preparing. Moreover, Sfax, Palma and the metropolitan regions that work in the SMART-MR project received the REMEDIO tool with great expectations for its feasibility to in their respective urban contexts.

Direct exchanges between cities and projects, together with the debate generated allowed connections between the participants in order to capitalize the results of the Interreg-MED and other territories in the Mediterranean.

A related event will soon take place in Barcelona (11th - 13th of June 2019) and will include an advanced course on sustainable mobility.

In order to capitalise on the activities and community building of the GO SUMP project, a series of advanced courses on sustainable mobility addressed to Mediterranean cities will be held, aimed at the consolidation of the training and transference of urban practices within the Interreg-MED Urban Transport Community (UTC).

The involvement of the cities of the southern Mediterranean will be emphasised to promote more solid policies in terms of sustainable mobility in similar urban environments. There will be two key aspects identified by the UTC, which will be developed in two parallel advanced formation courses: "Financing Sustainable Mobility" and "Ties between Tourism and Mobility".
