The AMB promotes the defence of liberties and human rights with the holding of two events within the general agenda for the ‘Cities Defending Human Rights' project. This initiative plans to raise awareness on the need to integrate the defence of human rights and basic liberties to our daily lives.

The actions promoted by the AMB were the conference ‘Youths in building peace' and a meeting of the participants in the human rights project with representatives from the eight smallest municipalities in the metropolitan area.

The conference on the role of youth in building peace was held on 1 October at Casa Amèrica Catalunya, and saw the participation of Alfred Bosch, AMB vice-president of International Relations and Cooperation, and international activists invited for this project to defend basic liberties. The meeting let participants exchange experiences in the area of the importance of youth's roles for world peace and security.

Moreover, on 3 October the AMB organised an activity at Colònia Güell in Santa Coloma de Cervelló, which let the mayors, councillors and experts from the eight smallest metropolitan municipalities, as well as other organisations and schools involved in the project, enjoy a tour and tea-chat with all international human rights advocates that have taken part in the ‘Cities Defending Human Rights' project.

The tour of Colònia Güell was conducted by a local historian, who presented both the workers' struggle and women's fight in the metropolitan area in the 20th century. Then a tea-chat was held with the participation of the eight metropolitan municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants (Begues, Cervelló, El Papiol, La Palma de Cervelló, Sant Climent de Llobregat, Santa Coloma de Cervelló, Tiana and Torrelles de Llobregat). Their participation was possible thanks to AMB's contribution of €14,000.
