The AMB presented its work and service provision model in different work sessions

The Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) is participating at the Hàbitat III, world conference, organised by the UN and held in Quito, Ecuador from 17 to 20 October.

Habitat III is the global summit on sustainable housing and urban development, at which the new world Urban Agenda was also approved. The summit is held once every 20 years, and the last one was held in Istanbul in 1996.

Ada Colau, president of AMB, attended in representation of the metropolitan administration.

All the large problems debated at the Habitat III summit and considered in the new Urban Agenda have their practical application in how the AMB runs and manages the metropolitan territory in different fields such as territorial planning, mobility, sustainability, adapting to climate change and mitigating its effects, sustainable and inclusive economic growth, and the strengthening of social cohesion. In sum, actions aimed at designing future cities and infrastructures, in order to help eradicate poverty and inequalities in large metropolises.

To translate the broad targets defined at Habitat III into a metropolitan scale, the AMB will organise a seminar in 2017 to keep debating how to adapt its management to these action lines. Likewise, during 2018 a congress will be organised, with the participation of other large metropolises, in order to share experiences and establish cooperation mechanisms for their implementation.
