New cultural projects in Tunisia and Lebanon

Two new projects in MedCities city members, with a total budget of €70,000 each one, have been approved

The MedCities Secretariat General (held by the AMB) and the  Diputació de Barcelona (Barcelona Provincial Council) are working together towards the implementation of two newly approved projects aimed at safeguarding the cultural heritage in Tripoli (Lebanon) and Tunis (Tunisia), since the beginning defined in cooperation with the Tunis Association of Safeguard of the Medina (ASM) and the Urban Community of Al Fayhaa respectively.

The project in Tunis seeks to improve the positioning of the Medina as a cultural platform by highlighting all cultural spaces and activities. All historical monuments, sightseeing tours, cultural spaces, leisure centers, creative industries and hotels will be mapped, analyzed and evaluated. The scope of this project also includes the creation of a new tourist card showing different thematic visits covering the whole historic center, the installation of information panels with QR codes along the routes, as well as organizing events to introduce the different actions.

The total budget for this project is €70,500.

Creation of a Cultural Observatory in the Urban Community of Al Fayhaa, Tripoli

The project of the Urban Community of Al Fayhaa aimed at developing a Cultural Observatory with the objectives of collecting data and documentation, as well as promoting the local culture. Through its Research Center the project aims at invigorating city actors working to preserve the cultural heritage of Tripoli and to highlight the various cultural sites, popular traditions and productive sectors. These actions aim to protect the cultural heritage of Tripoli and to improve its image, strengthening the sense of belonging and citizenship of the inhabitants through the knowledge of their own cultural diversity.
