AMB, Lyon and Montevideo take part in the first workshop of the MEGA Project

On 23rd and 24th November, the MEGA project (Metropolis Energy Governance) kicked off, as part of the "Metropolis Pilot Projects 2017-2019" call of the World Association of the major Metropolises.

The MEGA project, led by AMB with the participation of the metropolises of Montevideo and Lyon, was evaluated and ranked in the first position among the 18 proposals from cities around the world that applied to the call, of which only 6 have received funding.

The first project meeting was held on 23 and 24 November in Lyon. The first day coincided with the 5th Conference on the Energy and Climate Plan of Grand Lyon, and its 3rd seminar on the Energy Master Plan. The session underlined the involvement of private actors (up to 101 members of the Energy and Climate Plan), with different panel discussions on issues such as energy efficient buildings, transport and adaptation to climate change. A specific session and several participatory workshops on the Energy Master Plan were also held. The second day served to deepen the exchange of experiences among the three partner metropolises of the MEGA project, highlighting the Uruguayan renewable generation policies, as well as the efforts to model the Grand Lyon energy system with advanced software.

The goal of the MEGA project is to exchange knowledge on how metropolitan areas around the world face the energy transition process towards a decarbonised society. It also aims at capitalising on some of the lessons of a previous Metropolis project, the "Climate Metropole+", which AMB also led between 2015 and 2016. MEGA is part of the energy transition strategy of the AMB, especially regarding its international relations dimension and the strategic vision for a change of energy model. The following meetings will be held in Montevideo and Barcelona during the years 2018 and 2019.
