Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona

On October 9^th and 10^th, 2018, the seventh  SMART-MR European Project Workshop . called "Sharing economy" was held in the metropolitan area of Porto. The meeting took place at the Center of Excellence and Innovation in the Automotive Industry (CEIIA) of Matosinhos.

In the meeting, the AMB has presented the new metropolitan shared bicycle public service: e-Bicibox. This model aims to help reducing atmospheric pollution and improve the air quality of the metropolis. The e-Bicibox will reinforce the metropolitan strategy to increase the bicycle as a metropolitan daily transport and, in general, to promote and facilitate a real change of habits.

The AMB has also made a public presentation of the model of regulation of the different sharing mobility services—motorcycle, car, bicycle—in which the Barcelona City Council is working. It is a pioneering regulation model throughout Europe, which has attracted the attention of other European metropolitan areas SMART-MR partners.

Two referent actors in the field of collaborative economics (a technical manager of e-Bicibox and a technician from Barcelona City Council) have been in charge of presenting the proposals of Barcelona city.

Planning and management of public transport

SMART-MR is a program that aims to promote the transition to an urban future of low carbon emissions, with sustainable measures for transport and mobility in cities. The program is funded by Interreg Europe.

The project, led by the Center for Scientific Research of the Academy of Arts and Sciences (Ljubljana, Slovenia), has partners from various metropolitan regions such as AMB, Oslo-Akershus, Göteborg, Helsinki, Budapest, Ljubljana, Rome and Porto.

SMART-MR partners and experts from the eight countries met to explain issues related to the new business models in the transport sector. Attendees discussed important issues such as the role of transport authorities in the planning and management of new business models, or which is the role local administrations should have. During the workshop, the impact of new management models on traditional public transport and territorial planning were also discussed, among other subjects.

The participants also had the opportunity to visit the CEiiA and see the work done in the development and management of intelligent mobility services.
